Power versus Freedom

Description:

The more power, the less freedom

Power desires control – but itself needs to be controlled. Else it becomes like a fire that will rage until everything is ashes; or a tidal wave of water that will wash everything that is not away.

The way to keep an individual from overwhelming the system by centring power around himself, as is the case in corporations, which are an expression of individual power — is by specific checks and balances. The principle that needs to be followed is: the more power an individual has, the more oversight and surveillance will be focused on him (or her). Nowadays, the talk is always about surveillance and control of the people. But we need a system whereby there is that control implemented upon those who are in control of the system, as they are the most likely to pervert and co-opt the system to their own purposes – especially if it is whether they will remain in power or not.

The only power available should be to implement the decisions of whatever community they are in “charge” of.
