What if each “thought” is an “angel”.
In Rabbinic literature there is the idea that each thought we have produces an angel. But what are these thoughts themselves? Are they creations of our own “minds” – or in Kabbalah – our nefesh, our vivifying soul?
Let us propose rather that thoughts are produced (or influenced) by angels. Each thought is an angel. If you “think” that thought, i.e., “observe” it, you cause it to “manifest” – even in your “brain”. You have caused there to be a “manifestation” thereof, to be recognised and that gives it energy, and it will become stronger.
Various levels of angels are also spoken off, matching the various levels of thoughts that one can have – i.e. what the thought is about, and what it contains. Whether it is a loving thought, or a hateful one; a kind thought, or a cruel one, etc. It is possible to demarcate the thoughts as pro-life or anti-life.
Thus another way of looking at one’s nefesh is as an architectural blueprint, or as an app that has a template that is populated by thoughts, which are “angelic” events.
Just as there is the pervasive “dark” energy which permeates all existence, of which we can perceive only a small percentage, or the background vibration, the microwave energy that existed from the time of creation, so there is an underlying “angelic” (some refer to it as ætheric) from which our thoughts arise.
There are some comparisons one could make. Thoughts, for instance, also appear as discrete. There is a “quantification” of thoughts. Everyone knows what a thought is. There is a recognisable this angelic packet of energy. We all think thoughts.
Just as every quanta of energy has an effect – the accumulation of which produce ideas, which then become the template from which things manifest – if action is taken in the world of existence. Once thought, that thought is always available to us, just as photons from the farthest reaches of the universe billions of years after they manifested are still available to us. So will all thoughts have an effect, even the smallest, itzy-bitzy little thought.
Similarly to all quantum phenomenon, we cannot measure our thoughts with any known measuring instruments — we can only measure the effect it has upon us, and other living beings.
Thoughts energise the brain, and not the other way around. Thoughts produce images in the brain, which are then interpreted in terms of what we know. It is said that when one thinks in a language, that language has become a “native” language for you.
There are upper and lower thoughts. Upper thoughts are angelic thoughts, while lower thoughts are human thoughts. The angelic thoughts are essentially thoughts about ephemeral topics. One could say that angelic thoughts are thoughts about the non-manifest realm. Lower thoughts are human thoughts, thoughts regarding the material form of our existence, and how to nourish and increase said realm. Which will expand, if positive, one’s material realm, just as if one focuses on the upper realm, so it will expand, if true, one’s angelic realm.
There is also a level of complexity that can be used as a criterion in this case. The more complex the thought, the heavier it is, and the less likely it is to be accurate. It will then contain many elements from the human existence. This is because the Divine is pure simplicity. It is not complex or complicated. Its very simplicity is one of the most difficult thing to comprehend.
Although these angels might come and go, with only some of them remaining for any length of time, they are not truly temporal as it is obvious that they do not exist “in” time, and thus can only really be a process. Thoughts are like waves of G-d, perturbations emerging from the ocean of nothingness. The permanent one’s are called meta-angels, most of which have names. But those are only the ones we recognise.
There are simple, elemental angels, and composite angels. For if angels have no ego (as we know ego, i.e., human ego) and only serve G-d, they would have no problem sublimating themselves to cooperate to produce a composite angels. Much like the quanta combine to form elements, which combine to form more complex forms, like molecules, etc.
Thoughts themselves can be separated into what might be termed “pure” thoughts, which would be simple or light(er) ones. Or “messy” thoughts, which would be denser, and heavier, containing, or as a result of, more component thoughts. Like particles combining to form an nucleus, or a cell in the body.
We accept the inaccuracies of language in expressing these quantum phenomenon — which could be more generalised to say that many of the process we have expressed “scientifically”, or one could say using the the language of science — yet we do not accept a similar inaccuracy in language — especially when it has been translated from the source texts, which were written in another language and often in a far different cultural milieu — that is describing spiritual phenomenon. Even though there are a plethora of warnings of the difficulty of understanding this subtle realm of existence and the laws which govern it.
Just as it is a challenge requiring a deep commitment to its practice to become au fait with mathematics, the language of science, and the key to unlocking many of its secrets, so, a similar commitment is required to understand any sacred language which is the key to the truths of that culture.
Just as any cheap braggart, science is forever trumpeting its successes, but glossing over its failures. The sages of quantum mechanics say it is impossible to understand, not because it is hidden, but because they do not have the language to describe it accurately. They have not yet cracked the mystery of our reality. In the meantime, they too couch their knowledge of the unseen mysteries of existence in languages that few can understand. Perhaps that is because they are not willing to acknowledge some aspect of our reality. In the words of Sherlock Holmes. If every possible solution is shown to be incorrect, then what remains is the impossible one. It is an impossibility for science to acknowledge that there is something mysterious and incomprehensible behind our existence.
It is not that the sacred texts are trying to hide the truth because they do not know it, but because it needs to be hidden — because this journey of ours is a separation, and thus the truth needs to remain hidden, available only to those who are blessed or able to open their hearts to receive the knowledge of the truth of our existence — which, by the way, is impossible to communicate in any known language, except obliquely. Just like Jesus said: I am the way… so each word, each calling, can only point to the essence, for it can never be or express or encapsulate that which cannot be named, or understood, only known, by us.
But when every true sage, every true seeker, every one who is has seen the light, points in the same direction, you know that is the direction of the temple where the Shekhinah (the queen) is enthroned. Then you have to choose your path. But from here on, you will have that guiding light to keep you on your path. Just as the Israelites had the cloud by day, and the fire by night to guide them on their journey through the desert. Though it is said that the fire and the cloud were the same. It was just at night it would appear as a pillar of fire, and in the day, as cloud column.
