Metzora הַמְּצֹרָ֔ע

Description:

Leviticus 14:1-15:33

Chapter 14

Metzora

A person afflicted with Tzara’ath. Cleansing process seems to be a type of rebirth.

When healed of the scaly affliction

  • two live birds, cedar wood, crimson stuff, hyssop
  • 1 bird slaughtered over fresh water in an earthen vessel
  • dip all in blood of slaughtered bird (except dead bird)
  • Sprinkle 7 times over person
  • Set live bird free in open country

The Metzora shall wash those clothes, shave off all hair, bath in water. And then he shall be pure. He may enter the camp, but not his tent for 7 days. (v14:8)
On 7th day, all hair shaved off, wash clothes and bath in water and then shall be pure. (v14:9) NOTE: Why the repeat?

On the 8th day:

  • 2 male lambs
  • 1 ewe
  • 3/10 of measure of choice flour
  • with oil (for a meal offering)
  • one log of oil
Shall present before HaShem, at entrance of Tent of Meeting. (v14:11)
    Priest takes
  • 1 male with log of oil as guilt offering, and elevate them as an elevation offering (v14:12).
  • slaughtered
  • place some blood on ridge of right ear, and thumb of right hand, and big toe of right foot. (v14:14)
  • Some of the oil in the palm of priest’s left hand.
  • Dip right finger in oil, sprinkle some oil with his finger 7 times before HaShem.
  • Oil in palm on ridge of right ear, on thumb of right hand, on the big toe of right foot (over the blood of the guilt offering). (v14:17)
  • Rest of oil from palm on his head
Offer sin offering and make expiation.
Burnt offering slaughtered, and burnt & meal offering on the alltar, make expiation and he shall be pure.

v14:21-31

If one is poor, and without sufficient means…. and this is a repeat of the previous instructions, except with minor variations, taking into account the different animals brought as the meal/sin offering.

[!note] n14:31
What I find interesting is that it does not end with “and he shall be pure” in this case!
